I was surfing the ‘net the other night, checking up on what prophotolife readers have been shooting and I came across this photo on reader Trent Palmer’s flickr photostream. Finally, proof positive that “Elvis ain’t dead”, he’s popping wheelies on a minibike somewhere.
While the existence of The King is some pretty big news it’s not the big news of the …

When was the last time you viewed photography you would describe as “arresting”? I don’t often use that term but that’s exactly how I feel about Andy Ilachinski’s Micro Worlds Portfolio. Andy is the author of the Tao of Digital Photography Blog and writes eloquently on the quest of the artist. If you’re seeking a higher level of understanding of …

Definitive copyright info
I just watched a couple of very informative videos on Photoshop Insider: Scott Kelby’s exclusive interview with Attorney Ed Greenberg on copyright, model releases and shooting in public. Many of the questions posed by prophotolife readers regarding legal issues (can I photograph that building? do I need a model release? how do I protect copyright?) are answered here …

One of my favorite websites is A Photo Editor, written by photo editor Rob Haggart. Rob’s business is to constantly review the work of photographers so he frequently highlights new and cool photography on the site. I really enjoyed his post linking to a site with samples shot from what seems like a hundred “crappy cameras”, comparing the effects …

Diy lighting helpers
Readers have asked if there’s a resource showing how different reflectors work on a controlled portrait setup, showing the difference between white, silver, gold and black fill cards. Well, that resource now exists, thanks to DIYPhotography.net. Udi has done all of the hard work for us with this reflector card cheat sheet. The downloadable sheet contains a series …

Been bitten by the film bug? Calumet has bundled together the Holga 120N Camera with Five Rolls of Ilford HP5 Film for a quick start

There’s plenty of inspirational photography on the internet. Though I’m a commercial photographer, artistic images (rather than commercial images) usually catch my eye. But every once in awhile a collection of commercial photographs may make me …

There’s been lots of news going on this past week, let’s take a look.
First, I’d like to say thanks for joining the new prophotolife discussion forum. Not even a week old, there’s been a good deal of activity and I’ve learned about many new (to me) photo sites through this thread of reader website favorites. The forum will also …

Today’s post actually turned into two posts. In this installment: how prophotolife got to where it is. Tomorrow I’ll post the continuation: where prophotolife.com is headed.
“Today, on a very special episode of Around the ‘Net…”

This has been one of the funnest, busiest weeks of my (pro photo) life. The highlight was Tuesday night’s get-together here at the studio. The Ohio …

Another great week here in Cincinnati. Yesterday was a fun photo shoot at the Newport Aquarium (Greater Cincinnati area) of their interactive Frog Bog exhibit (over 20 species of frogs on display). We covered both photographs and video of the exhibit for a new client, the creators of the installation. Continually learning new things is really what keeps me hooked …

It’s been another busy week at prophotolife / Daylight Photo. Last weekend’s shoot was great fun, we photographed an actor / comedian as 16 different characters. Once I get client approval I’ll share the images here. This week I’ve also been putting together the video for Monday, it’s a real hands-on shooting technique video. If you are interested in portraiture …
